The senior essay for economics majors is optional. If a senior wishes to be considered for distinction in the major, however, the senior essay is required. American Jewish Congress Prize The Department of Religious Studies, in conjunction with the Program in Judaic Studies, awards a prize annually honoring academic excellence in a senior essay. Please bear in mind that, in addition to Yale College prizes for outstanding senior theses, the Classics Department has an Annual Alice Derby Lang Essay Prize (the deadline for submissions falls at the beginning of April). How to Graduate a Senior The requirements for the bachelor’s degree are thirty-six course credits, the fulfillment of the distributional requirements, and the completion of a major program. Course credits and the distributional requirements are supervised by the Registrar’s Office, the residential college deans, and the Yale College Dean’s Office.
